OVERVIEW
RuneScape is a browser-based fantasy MMORPG set in a mediaeval world of magic and monsters where players step into the shoes of heroic adventurers tasked with bringing peace and safety back to the realm of Gielenor. With classic MMORPG features the game contains over a decade with of content and experience since its initial launch and strong areas of character customisation due to the skill-based advancement system that is in place. Players do not need to download a client to play the game and can play directly in their web browser.

GAMEPLAY
The game is a classic MMORPG but set in a more sandbox environment owing to the more classic nature of the title itself, initially launching in 2001 the game has stayed true to its original form in many ways with a few enhancements to make it more current. With raids, quest chains and PVP battlegrounds the game has features of more modern day MMO RPG is, but still lends itself well to the open world exploration where players can simply set off in a direction to try and discover something new as opposed to being restricted by zones and having their gameplay experience put on all linear path.
RACES
There are 12 available races in the game that players can choose from: Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Gnomes, Goblins, Trolls, Fairies, Ogres, Werewolves, Vampyrs, Demons, Mahjarrat, TzHaar and Monkeys. Each race has its own key locations where it is most prosperous and where players will find other inhabitants of the same race, some fantastic unique races exist in the world as well as those that are common to the fantasy type of genre.
SKILLS
The skill-based system essentially means that players only level up particular skills that they actively use, as opposed to simply increasing their skills as they gain level XP in a level focused system. There are 26 unique skills to choose from and train up that can be grouped into one of four different categories:
- Combat Skills - these skills will help players inflict damage to other creatures and players and will directly determine your Combat Level
- Gathering Skills - skills which are necessary for the gathering of various resources from the environment to be used with crafting skills
- Artisan Skills - using raw materials typically gain from the Gathering Skills, these skills are allow players to turn raw materials into valuable and useful items
- Support Skills - unique skills that support other skills or general gameplay features
PVE CONTENT
Heading out into the world and fighting the monsters, creatures and other enemies that inhabit the land is one of the key elements to the game, a sandbox “set your own goals” experience, whether to gain loot, increase skills or just for the excitement and fun of it. There are more Quest orientated goals that players can pick up from the various NPC’s dotted around the world including longer Quest Series’ leading to larger more epic stories as well as those adventures that will send players deep into the heart of the wilderness and dangers such as the dungeon of Demonheim.
PVP CONTENT
There are a variety of different World Themes to suit all different types of gameplay experiences that players will be after, including a PVP World. In this world players can engage in PVP providing they are outside the normal safe zones and e.g. banks, and are free to fight against anyone at a time with the consequence that if they die then their killer is able to take all their items as loot.
Alternatively players have the choice of playing in the Castle Wars, a classic capture the flag type game where two teams must attack the respective enemy Castle to try and recover their flag and bring it back to their home base. The game adds a nice twist with a variety of unique items that can be used within the battle such as ropes to climb over castle walls and Explosion Potions that can be used to harm both the players and the defences of the castle.
