Cloud Pirates is a free to play aerial combat shooter where players battle it out in the skies in flying pirate ships. Players are able to battle across multiple maps and modes with their own customizable ships in team-based matches with third person perspective.

The game is advertised as free to play, but let’s see what our F2PMeter has to say about it.
Does the game require an initial purchase?

'No'

To play the game players do not need to make any payment.
Does the game require any continued paid subscription?

'No (but...)' takes away 10%

Whilst it is not mandatory there is a “Premium” account option that players can buy for various periods that will give them EXP and gold boosts.
Does the game require spending money on DLC packs or expansions?

'No'

Expansions are provided for free to players through regular content updates.
Does the game support micro-transactions? Can anything be purchased in-game using real world money?

'Yes' takes away 5%

The game has a primary premium currency called Rubies (purchased with cash) that can be used for buying numerous upgrades and benefits.
Do any of the micro-transactions give players an advantages?

'Yes (but...)' takes away 10%

Players can purchase a variety of cosmetics directly, or treasure chests for different rewards. Primarily Rubies can be purchased and then exchanged directly for Gold and EXP which is used to unlock and purchase ship modifications. There are also various premium only ships available in the tech tree.
Is the user interface customization restricted to paid options?

'No'

The customization options for free to play accounts and premium accounts is the same.
Does the game give access to all available classes and/or races?

'No' takes away 15%

The different ships classes on the tech tree are all accessible, but certain ships within those classes are premium only.
Does the game require have limitations to how the 'Auction House' /Market/Trade system is accessed?

'No'

There are no limitations.
Are personal inventory and/or bank slots limited at all?

'No'

Inventory/bank slots are not restricted in any way for free accounts.
Are all dungeons and zones accessible without purchases?

'Yes'

All maps are accessible in the game for free.
Does the game restrict high endgame content (PVE, Raids or PvP)?

'No'

There are no restrictions to any game modes or content for free accounts.
Can the game be fully enjoyed without ever having to spend a ‘penny’?

Cloud Pirates is a fast and fun game, from the first battles to deeper into the ship tiers to upper level play. The Rubies currency does allow players to simply buy their way to the top, particularly with Premium ships, however, everyone else can reach the same point it just takes them a lot longer. Whilst advantages can be purchased in battles, typically they are not dominant enough to unbalance the game, and player skill will always win out.
